yea, we used to get tons of that crap in the mail.
so one day I decided to call each and every single company that sent me something and tell them to stop.
Well, its worked out quite well.
At the very end of any credit card app/pre-approval is a number you can call, that will stop "all" credit card companies from pulling your information, for some undisclosed amount of time (5 years i think).
But, honeslty, the few days it took for me to call each company, has really worked out. Now we only get, Netflix, bills, and the random valupak or coupon add book.
This was an awesome task Bo, put your graphs on www.graphjam.com, i'll vote for them.

Thanks, Raoul. When I first started, I thought it would be interesting (and likely possible) to receive my own weight in junk. Now instead I'm just surprised at how much 68 lbs actually is. I easily received my own volume in mail. (Plus some.)

Congratulations on keeping up with the project and bringing it to completion! I was actually surprised that you only got 68 lbs of junk. I'd have expected more.

It does boggle the mind that these companies care so little about the environment that they'd bombard people with tens of pounds of paper that only gets tossed out.

Perhaps a new startup somewhere could crowd-source a tally of sorts of the junk mail that people get, to allow us to see a break-down, by company, of the worst offenders. I think those results could then form a powerful argument against junk mail.

Thanks for doing your experiment and writing about it!
