His friends call him Speedo, but his real name’s Mr. Dave

The latest installment of Dave’s weekly TV column is up on Cinescape. Check it out here.

This week he takes a moment to introduce himself. His name is Humpty, rhymes with an umpty … oh wait. That’s someone else. My bad. (Digital Underground, TV Wasteland … anybody could make that mistake.)

Anyway, here’s a brief synopsis:
1. Dave introduces himself, claims Cinescape’s TV section for the Spainish crown
2. Dave outs himself as a couch potato
3. Dave outs his wife as a closet geek
4. Dave previews the week’s semi-precious gems and semi-polished turdballs on the teevee

I Hitchhiked to Rhome this weekend

The Old 97s played a show at the Grenada Theater this weekend. I’ve seen them 4 or 5 times before, and this was the best I’ve seen by far.

Here’s the setup:

It’s been ten years since the release of their debut album, Hitchkike to Rhome, and so the show was to be a celebration of the anniversary. No opening act. Instead, two sets worth of Old 97s. For the first set, they played the entire album. In order. Including the hidden track. The second set was one of the better “normal sets” they’ve put together.

Great show. Great show.

Here are a few pics:

Communication Breakdown

So where have I been lately? Why the sudden radio silence on the blog?

Well, I had a bit of a meltdown on the laptop, so my access to the net away from work has been limited the last few days.

After a miserable week of countless repair attempts, I finally gave up today.

I broke down and bought this:
The PowerBook

Yep. I’ve broken down and joined the cult of Mac. So far, so good. It’s fun being bilingual again.
